How to start writing

The diploma thesis can be based on already published books and articles.

Every year, thousands of students approach diploma exams allowing them to obtain the desired professional title or degree. Completing studies with a good result depends not only on the average of all grades obtained in their course, but also writing and defending the diploma thesis. Most of such works are currently being tested in the anti-plagiarism system. It allows you to determine whether the prepared material is not an ordinary copy of the works of other authors. The unlawful use of third-party texts may not only be an obstacle to obtaining a university graduation diploma, but it may also constitute a crime.

The right quote

While writing a diploma thesis (bachelor’s, engineer’s or master’s thesis) you can base on available studies, monographs, comments or press articles. Students have the statutory right to cite other authors. Recalling scientific texts is indeed desirable and necessary. However, this should be done so as not to violate copyrights.

How to start writing a master thesis?

Writing a master’s thesis is usually quite a challenge. It is particularly difficult for technical departments, where, unfortunately, besides research and calculation, written text is also required, in addition to the scientific language. I hope that the tips contained in this article will be useful for everyone who is struggling to write a scientific paper.

The worst is to start. My first advice is to think carefully, very precisely about the topic. Then, try to write out the contents of each chapter in points. The greatest detail is indicated. The more we have such points, the easier it is for us to write later. Because adding the content of each of the sub-sections, it may turn out that two pages are enough for each and we already have a very extensive work. If we already have a plan for our work, we can start writing.

Admission. There are opinions that the introduction to scientific work is written at the end. There are so many sentences on this subject, how many master’s theses are created annually, each promoter has its own rules. Personally, I always started to write an introduction, let me later determine the exact direction of my work. What should be included in the introduction? Well, there are a few basic points that we should include:

What is the purpose of our work? For example, the work aims to show the role of women in the 19th century. The author presents the social situation of women and their rights against the background of the political situation in Europe at the end of the century.

Why did we choose a topic like this? For example, the inspiration to take up this topic was the author’s long-standing passion for music.

Who can this work and its results be useful for? For example, the work may be useful for graduates of the Information Science and Library Science who want to work in Great Britain.

What is the work pattern? For example, the first chapter presents the general characteristics of the epoch. The next chapter was devoted …

What is the state of research on a given topic? For example, currently no work has been published in Europe that deals specifically with the topic. However, article X deals with issues …

Chapters. We write according to plan, but remember that each chapter as well as each point should consist of basic elements: introduction, development, summary. Let’s try to write with simple sentences. We avoid sentences repeatedly made because it is easy to get lost in them.

Conclusion It does not have to be long, this is the place for our subjective and quite private opinions and assessments. Let us try not to write what was in each chapter separately but to treat the work as a whole and present conclusions.
